The written work Konrad von Grünenberg: Beschreibung der Reise von Konstanz nach Jerusalem (1487) describes a typical journey of a society of pilgrims during the 15th century. Besides beautiful hand drawings the book reveals many topographic details of the holy land. The book was digitized by the Badische Landesbibliothek, Karlsruhe. (via Archivalia@Twitter)

My name is Reginald Grünenberg and Konrad is my ancestor (www.reginald-gruenenberg.de). This book is indeed fascinating - if you can read German. He was one of the very last knights in Germany, one of the few with a humanistic education. Thus, the book starts with a citation of Cicero in Latin. Usually, knights couldn't even read. My father planned to write a historical novel on the pilgrimage of our ancestor, but then he died.

How wonderful you can trace this ancestor. I can read German, but the writing is difficult to decipher. What I am wondering about: Did Konrad only refer to Jerusalem or did he talk about a region or a country he was going to visit?
